We can’t thank Julie and John enough for the care and compassion they showed in organising my mother’s funeral. From our first meeting, they handled everything with sensitivity, professionalism, and genuine empathy. They guided us gently through each step, ensuring all the arrangements were exactly as my mother would have wanted. Their attention to detail, respectful communication, and support made an incredibly difficult time more bearable knowing my mother had the send off she deserved. Their communication was fantastic and consistent and nothing was a bother. Nothing felt rushed and it truly felt like they cared. The loss of a loved one is extremely hard but it helps if you receive care and support at this time. In this regard, as a family, we were so grateful for the help of John and Julie. They guided us through the process and came up with useful suggestions on setting up the funeral arrangements. Everyone we spoke to afterwards were complimentary on the service, in particular, the video of a life well spent by dad (jack). My husband, Bill, said he wanted a no fuss, simple funeral and that is what Delanoy arranged for us. My daughter and I have nothing but praise for the professionalism, caring and compassion shown to us by Julie and John. They were like friends we had known for a long time and nothing was a trouble. After the incident on Wednesday, when John was injured whilst carrying out his duty, we wanted to reaffirm why we walk in front of the hearse.

Thank you to every driver in Easington today who showed us the utmost respect and held back to allow our cortege to pass safely. It truly meant a great deal to ourselves and the family.

Walking in front of the hearse is a long-standing tradition and a final act of care. It symbolises leading the deceased on their final journey and also lets other road users know a funeral procession is taking place.

We never experienced anything like Wednesday’s incident, and we hope we never do again. All we ask is for patience, awareness and respect when you see a funeral cortege.

During my wonderful dad's final journey, a driver overtook the hearse and funeral cars. It is a difficult and heartbreaking day enough as it is. This makes me so sad. Xx
